The implications of Federal policy changes will be the focus of discussions at the Senate Presidents’ Summer Forum in Newport, Rhode Island slated for July 9-12, 2017. Expert speakers from academia, and the public and private sectors will focus on the emerging balance between States’ rights and Federalism in many areas.
Experts in healthcare strategy will consider the implications of a Trump Administration move to providing block grants for Medicaid funding and continue with dismantling the Affordable Care Act. They will examine the opportunities and challenges facing the States that will arise from either decision.
The new Administration’s pick to fill the Supreme Court vacancy also could have profound effects on the States. Legal experts will provide analyses of the Court’s stances on key issues and engage Senate leaders in examining how Supreme Court decisions may affect their States.
As more States move to legalize marijuana for medicinal and/or recreational purposes, how will Federal laws affect State policies such as State regulation of pharmacies and the collection of sales tax revenue from marijuana sales?
