CA: After declining to join six other states in a plan to cut Colorado River water usage, California has offered its own plan.
FL: Legislation has been introduced that would allow juries to recommend the death sentence when 8 out of 12 jurors agree.
FL: The Legislature is expected to hold a special session to consider state takeover of Disney World’s Reedy Creek Improvement District.
IN: Lawmakers have introduced bills to clamp down on the use of tracking devices such as AirTags to follow someone without their knowledge.
LA: A bill to offer insurance firms $45 million to write policies in the hurricane-battered state has cleared its first hurdle.
MN: The House passed a bill requiring state utilities to shift to 100% carbon-free electricity by 2040.
MO: The Senate is expected to take up a Parents’ Bill of Rights banning some diversity-related concepts and the teaching of critical race theory.
MT: The Senate Judiciary Committee advanced along party lines a bill that would ban gender-affirming care for transgender minors and impose other limitations for medical providers.
ND: The House has advanced a bill banning drag shows in public and in the presence of minors.
NY: The Governor introduced her $227B budget, kicking off negotiations amid increasing tensions between the Governor and the Legislature.
TN: House Democrats plan to introduce new legislation to address police training following the death of Tyre Nichols and subsequent public protests.
UT: The Senate passed legislation providing $8,000 scholarships for private education and a $6,000 pay raise for licensed educators.
UT: The House has voted to ban transgender surgeries and extend a moratorium on puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for minors.

FL: Lawmakers can fine local government officials who attempt to restrict gun and ammunition sales under a state law upheld by the state Supreme Court.
IL: A new lawsuit challenges the weapons ban and gun registry legislation recently signed into law.
IA: An education bill has been signed into law allowing families to apply for up to $7,600 for private-school tuition and expenses.
KS: New legislation that would create a single rate for income tax and corporate tax has been introduced with the backing of the Chamber.
LA: The Governor has called for a special session to address the state’s property insurance crisis. Insurance costs have skyrocketed following a spate of hurricanes.
ME: The federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has advanced Maine’s first-in-the-nation application for a floating offshore wind research array off the coast of Portland.
MD: The Governor’s $63B budget plan, which prioritizes education and transportation, will be taken up by the General Assembly.
MO: More than a dozen faith leaders representing Protestant and Jewish denominations have filed suit to overturn the state’s abortion ban.
